The From Forty Five wedding blog is back and this time we are talking all things trending. With the 2023 wedding season fast approaching we wanted to share what we think are going to be the biggest stationery trends in this upcoming season!
It is natural for couples to want to bring their own style and personality to their wedding day. In recent years we have seen couples ditch normal wedding traditions and make their wedding day completely their own… and this is what we LOVE to see! Obviously we encourage all of our couples to make choices that reflect their personalities, read on to see if any of these 2023 trends fit with your wedding vibe.
Texture
This is huge and it is one of my favourite trends. It gives dimension and drama to your wedding and looks great when layered together too! In the stationery world this might look like using a broken piece of marble or tiles for your table numbers, torn edges on your stationery, seating charts printed on linens, handmade paper or signage that has a textured finish (this can be achieved by using artex… yes that stuff that makes those horrible pop corn ceilings is back).

Less formal etiquette
Your wedding is one of the most of the important days of your life. It’s a legal ceremony that takes place in front of your nearest and dearest and I think that scares a lot of us into thinking it needs to be this really formal affair. But let’s be honest, the majority of your guests are just there for the party! We love when our couples opt for less formal etiquette on their invitations.
Instead of “dinner and dancing to follow” it might look like “pizza and partying” or “Burgers and Boogying”. This is a fun way to express your personality a little bit more and just is a bit more fun!
Acrylic
Acrylic exploded into the wedding world a few years ago but it is here to stay! When I got married in 2017 it was nearly impossible to get hold of acrylic items and everything I had on my wedding day had to be custom made or shipped here from a different country. It’s great that it is now so readily available for our couples and with great suppliers we can offer a huge range of colours and finishes too.
I do feel a shift in focus with acrylic. We are loving the little details such as drink tags and cocktail stirrers etc. and it’s fun to play with these little elements to add detail to your big day! We use acrylic monograms on our wedding invitations all the time and it’s a great way to incorporate this element into your stationery without blowing your budget!

Black Print
At almost every single consultation appointment our couples express how much they LOVE the black and white stationery samples but they aren’t having a black and white wedding. And we always say “you don’t need to be having a black wedding to have black stationery”. Don’t think of black as a colour, black print on your stationery is so classic and timeless. It’s dramatic and adds depth to your wedding as well as giving *immaculate* vibes.
Fonts
Are the days of the traditional swirly fonts gone? I personally feel that there is space for it and it is still requested during our consultation appointments. We have some of our favourites and we get some odd looks during consultation appointments when we quickly chat to each other about fonts we think would match a couple and their wedding vibe. We know lots of font names off by heart and can identify them quickly… yes our work chat is really dull! However, in 2023 we think we are going to see less of the swirls and more bold and quirky fonts. Starting with retro fonts, these are really fun and really will bring your invitations to life! Personally, I think this is perfect for those instagrammable disco ball wedding people. My absolute FAVE has to be flexible fonts. This is when we play with each letter height/width/shape/add flourishes or anything that just makes it look more fun! This is great and really gives your stationery a unique look. We are using this lots in our 2023 stationery when designing custom monograms for our lovely couples.

Bold colours
We are seeing lots of this with our 2023 couples, lots of them opting for vibrant colours within their stationery suites. We are loving using coloured envelopes and using patterns, imagery and illustrations within our designs too! Fortune favors the bold they say so why not go bold with colour when planning your wedding?
This trend goes hand in hand with our next one too.
Illustrations
You guys LOVE venue illustrations and I think they are here to stay for 2023 too but another huge trend that I think will come through in 2023 is hand drawn or painted illustrations. This is so beautiful and really sets the tone for a happy and homely day. This trend is great for those having colourful weddings or a garden party/destination wedding. It injects personality into the stationery suite and it looks so soft and dainty. I know if I received this as a guest it would make me smile!
shapes
Gone are the days that we are limited to traditional square and rectangle stationery and signage. In recent years we have seen the huge impact of the arch shaped invitations and it really does bring the vibe! The Wavey edge trend is also all over my TikTok and I kind of love it. It’s fun, flirty and thriving (yes I did almost quote 13 going on 30). Curved edges are really impactful too and pill shaped stationery (or double arch) is perfect for couples that want to achieve a really modern and clean look. It looks great on stationery and in a larger scale for welcome signs too! Experimenting with different shapes for signage is fun and adds so much personality to your big day too!
